Meet the 2025 Chef’s Theatre Comperes

With more than 50 chef demonstrations packed into one unforgettable weekend, the Padstow Christmas Fayre Chef’s Theatre is the beating heart of the celebrations.

This year, we’re thrilled to introduce the three brilliant comperes who will be your guides, storytellers, and culinary companions throughout the weekend.

Say hello to Steven Lamb, Rose Cant, and Steve Ashworth — the talented trio bringing warmth, wit, and expert insight to the stage over all four days of the Fayre.

Steven Lamb —Food Educator & Festival Favourite

Steven Lamb is known for his charm, deep food knowledge, and a laugh that can fill a room. Best recognised from his years at River Cottage, Steve has a knack for turning even the most complex techniques into something approachable, fun, and full of wonder. Whether he’s chatting with Michelin-starred chefs or coaxing stories from rising culinary stars, Steven brings an energy that makes every demo feel personal.

Rose Cant — The Sparkling Voice of Cornish Food & Drink

Rose, who you might also recognise as Mum On Muddy Lane on Instagram, is a natural storyteller with a passion for local producers. Rose brings warmth, curiosity, and a fresh perspective to the Chef’s Theatre. Her enthusiasm is infectious, and her genuine love for the people behind the dishes shines through on stage. Expect her to ask the questions you didn’t realise you needed the answers to—while making every chef feel instantly at home.

Steve Ashworth — The South West’s Very Own Clark Kent of Hospitality

In a recent podcast, the host described Steve Ashworth as the “Clark Kent of hospitality in the South West” — a tax specialist for the industry by day, and an expert chef, foodie judge, writer, and critic by night. It’s a title that fits.

Steve is one of the region’s most recognisable foodie faces, known for his unrivalled passion for great food and for championing the people who make the Southwest such a vibrant culinary community. If you enjoy eating out or attending food events across the region, chances are you already know him.

A tax specialist by trade, Steve’s status as more than a gifted amateur was confirmed in 2013 when he won the title of South West Chef of the Year (Home Cook), followed by being named Somerset Life Food & Drink Hero in 2018. What followed was a whirlwind of charity pop-up dinners, hosting demo stages at festivals across the UK, and performing his own public food demonstrations — always celebrating exceptional local produce.

Steve’s also a seasoned food and restaurant judge for Taste of the West, The Guild of Fine Food, and many other organisations. He is an Ambassador for Hospitality Action and co-leads on hospitality for Taste of the West, further cementing his role at the heart of the region’s food culture.

Three Hosts, One Theatre, Endless Inspiration

Together, Steven, Rose, and Steve form a dynamic, joyful, and endlessly knowledgeable trio. They’ll guide you through a weekend packed with extraordinary chefs, festive flavours, and culinary magic.
